Vietnam / Trip cost

What a trip to Vietnam costs

Not a price list — prices change too fast for that to be honest. This is how a Vietnam budget actually breaks down, and what pushes it up or down.

The honest version

Why we do not quote a daily budget for Vietnam

Any site that states a fixed daily cost for Vietnam is guessing at your travel style, your season and your hotel taste. So instead of inventing numbers, here is the structure of the spend — and a calculator that works from your estimates, not ours.

Vietnam trips are usually priced around one big decision — a guided multi-day tour that bundles everything, or independent travel where you pay as you go. Within either route, the same handful of categories decides the total.

The categories

Where a Vietnam budget goes

Multi-day tours

The backbone line item if you book a guided tour of Vietnam: it typically bundles guiding, transport between sights, and often accommodation and some meals into one price, replacing several categories below.

Day activities and tickets

Day tours, attraction tickets and excursions booked separately — the category that grows fastest when you build the trip yourself instead of taking a bundled tour.

Stays

Hotels, riads, guesthouses or resorts, night by night. Location within the destination usually matters as much as standard.

Food

From street food and local restaurants to hotel dining — the widest daily swing in most trips, and the easiest category to steer up or down.

Local transport

Airport transfers, taxis, metros, ferries and internal journeys that are not already inside a tour price.

Up or down

What drives the price of a Vietnam trip

  • Route length: Vietnam is long and thin, so travelling its full length adds internal flights or overnight trains that a single-region trip avoids.
  • Tour inclusions: a bay cruise, internal transport and guiding bundled into a multi-day tour costs more upfront but replaces several separate bookings.
  • Season: the dry, comfortable months pull prices up; the monsoon months are when the same rooms and tours get cheaper.
  • Cities vs countryside: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City stays cost more than nights in smaller towns along the route.

Run your own numbers

Enter your own per-day estimates into our trip budget calculator and it totals the trip for you — per person and per group, in the currency you choose. Your figures, your trip; nothing is sent anywhere.

When you are ready to see real numbers, they live on the booking sites — the live price for your dates is shown before you pay.
