Peru / Trip cost

What a trip to Peru costs

Not a price list — prices change too fast for that to be honest. This is how a Peru budget actually breaks down, and what pushes it up or down.

The honest version

Why we do not quote a daily budget for Peru

Any site that states a fixed daily cost for Peru is guessing at your travel style, your season and your hotel taste. So instead of inventing numbers, here is the structure of the spend — and a calculator that works from your estimates, not ours.

Peru budgets concentrate on the Cusco region: altitude logistics, the Machu Picchu leg and any trekking. How you reach and experience the citadel is the main cost decision.

The categories

Where a Peru budget goes

Multi-day tours

The backbone line item if you book a guided tour of Peru: it typically bundles guiding, transport between sights, and often accommodation and some meals into one price, replacing several categories below.

Day activities and tickets

Day tours, attraction tickets and excursions booked separately — the category that grows fastest when you build the trip yourself instead of taking a bundled tour.

Stays

Hotels, riads, guesthouses or resorts, night by night. Location within the destination usually matters as much as standard.

Food

From street food and local restaurants to hotel dining — the widest daily swing in most trips, and the easiest category to steer up or down.

Local transport

Airport transfers, taxis, metros, ferries and internal journeys that are not already inside a tour price.

Up or down

What drives the price of a Peru trip

  • Trek vs train: trekking to Machu Picchu over several days and riding the train price very differently, and permits for the classic trek are limited.
  • Altitude logistics: flights to Cusco and acclimatisation nights shape both the route and the bill.
  • Season: dry-season demand peaks around June to August; wet-season trips cost less but risk views and trails.
  • Extensions: Lake Titicaca, the Amazon or the Nazca lines each add flights, transfers and days.

Run your own numbers

Enter your own per-day estimates into our trip budget calculator and it totals the trip for you — per person and per group, in the currency you choose. Your figures, your trip; nothing is sent anywhere.

When you are ready to see real numbers, they live on the booking sites — the live price for your dates is shown before you pay.
