Hotels in Italy
Which areas of Italy suit which kind of trip, what to check before you book there — and a partner link that checks the live price for your dates.
Check Radisson stays in Italy
We list no properties and no prices for Italy — hotel line-ups change and rates move daily. This button goes to Radisson's own site, where every property and the live price for your dates are shown before you pay. When the hotel feed connects to this site, live property listings will appear in this same panel.
Where to stay
The areas of Italy, honestly described
General guidance on the districts travellers choose between — follow the partner link above to see which specific hotels are on sale for your dates.
Rome: the historic centre
Staying within the old centre puts the Colosseum, the forums and the great piazzas within walking distance. The Vatican side of the river suits travellers whose days centre on St Peter's and the Vatican Museums.
Rome: near Termini station
The streets around the main station trade a little charm for easy arrivals, departures and airport connections, and hold a deep stock of hotels of every size.
Florence: the walkable centre
Florence's sights are tightly packed, so almost any central base works. The Oltrarno, across the river, is the quieter, more local-feeling side of the same small centre.
Venice: island or mainland
Sleeping on the island itself means early mornings and evenings after the day crowds leave, while Mestre on the mainland is the practical base with a short train ride in.
The south and the lakes
Naples and the Amalfi Coast, and the lake country north of Milan, each work best as their own base rather than day trips bolted onto Rome or Florence.
Before you book
What to look for when booking in Italy
- Many historic-centre hotels sit in old buildings where rooms vary a lot within the same property, and lifts are not guaranteed — check the room description, not just the hotel name.
- Most Italian cities add a per-night city tax that is usually paid at the hotel rather than inside the booking price.
- Breakfast is not always included in Italian room rates, and air conditioning matters from late spring onwards, especially in the south.
- Driving into historic centres is restricted in many cities (the ZTL zones), so a central hotel plus trains usually beats a hire car for city trips.
