Athens: Plaka, Syntagma and the Acropolis slopes
Most first-time stays centre on the old town under the Acropolis. A rooftop view of the monument is a common feature of hotels here — and a common price driver.
Santorini: caldera side or beach side
The famous choice: villages on the caldera rim such as Fira and Oia, all views and steps, versus the flatter beach resorts of Kamari and Perissa on the other side of the island.
